Beeple
AKA Mike Winkelmann is a designer famous for his “Everydays” Project, where he’s created a new render everyday for over 6 years. His latest work “Transparent Machines” examines the contradictory nature of our online lives. On the one hand we are outraged that the NSA is monitoring our private information while at the same time we are volunteering our own private information to Google and Facebook who are using that information in their advertising products. Here’s how Beeple explained the piece:-
“This video came as sort of a reaction to seeing friends and family who were complaining about privacy issues on Facebook which to me seemed to be a bit contradictory. I think this is sort of something that’s inherently human, we want privacy but we also want to share our lives with others. Unfortunately sometimes these two desires come into conflict.
I wanted the overall look to be very complicated and very quick because that is really how I see this issue. Things are changing very quickly as we share more and more of our data through new technology like smartphones and I also think this is a subject that is very complex.”
The short film is definitely worth watching not only for its message but the amazing amount of keyframes and work the animation must have taken. The sound design by standingwave is also impressive and perfectly matches the visuals.
Unbelievably, he’s made the entire CINEMA 4D project available for everyone to download under a Creative Commons license. You can find it here.
